As the famous saying goes, “Nothing is impossible until it’s done”. While it’s not impossible to achieve this particular goal, it is extremely challenging. The amount of determination and discipline you must have has to be exponential as each day goes by.
So let’s deep dive into the solutions and practicality of the million dollar question “Is 6 months enough? Am I too late to the party?”. We’ll also develop an action plan, so stick towards the end!
Getting ready
This is probably the tricky part, the very first step you need to take to accomplish your mission.
- Willpower: In order to dedicate yourself to studying 12-14 hours a day, you must develop (yes, we use the word develop because it’s not something you inherently have rather something you build for yourself) a strong willpower to withstand all those tough days and all the sacrifices you’ll have to make.
- Positive attitude: Believe that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be and whatever happens, happens for good. Or like Dory would put it “just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming!”
- Pressure and stress: The best way to manage stress while studying is following the 25-5-25-5-25-5-25-15 rule. It means for 25 minutes worth of fully focused studying, you immediately take 5 minutes break and so on. At the end of the 4th cycle, you take a 15 minute break and repeat. This is known as the ________ technique. This will help to keep it less monotonous, thus helping keep the pressure and stress at bay. Please note, the small breaks in between are for you to relax, meditate or simply to focus on a particular point rather than distract you brain with social media.
- Making self-notes or voice recordings: Self notes are the easiest way to save time searching through the ocean of books and material available. Since time is precious for you, you must make it a point to make small notes for whichever areas you feel necessary. Voice recordings are for you to listen to before sleep, thus helping to retain the information in your subconscious mind.
- Be patient: Being patient does not mean you wait around doing nothing waiting for the results to come to you. Rather being patient means proactively working towards your mission day after day and being patient to see the results. There will be days when you feel you don’t remember anything you learnt, but be patient with yourself to see the results. Trust the process!
Now that we know all the important ingredients, let’s see the actual steps involved.
Action Plan
Let’s do some math, shall we?
You have 6 months i.e., 180 days.
You can allot 15 days for one subject which makes it 120 days (5 months).
- The first 12 days – The very first thing you need to do is divide the entire subject to 4 equal parts. Assign each part to 3 days and make sure you finish it within those 3 days (adjust the number of hours you devote to per day accordingly, minimum of 12 hours study is a must). In the rare case that you don’t finish a particular part in 3 days, move on to the next one. We’ll pick up the balance bits and pieces during the last 3 days. If you’re more comfortable learning from lecturers rather than self studying, taking up the courses provided by Arivupro which is priced as low as INR 1200 per subject.
- The next 3 days – Do as many mock question papers as you can (we do not mean reading, but actually setting a timer for 3 hours and writing things down). After each paper, compare your answers to the suggested answers and recognise the mistakes you made.
- Repeat this 12-3 plan for all 8 subjects and always remember to use the ___ technique as studying the same subject for long hours can get monotonous. Remember to keep making short notes and highlighting important areas.
- After the 5 months of intensive in-depth study, you’re ready to get into 60 days of revision.
Revote 6 days for the revision of each subject i.e., 48 days in total. Ideally start with 1st group and then move onto 2nd group as you’ll be revising the 1st group during the last 10 days. Again, the game plan is two-legged.
- One – Do as many mock papers as possible, revise every section the answer belongs to in detail.
- Revise all the areas you’ve highlighted during the initial in-depth studying.
- Last 10 days – There are several videos available on out youtube channel with important areas to revise and discussion of mock question papers, watch them for revision purpose. At the same time, revise all the areas you marked as important yourself.
It is not going to be an easy ride, so prepare yourself mentally and physically to take on the challenge. Don’t worry about the results or fret about the time available. Remember to trust in the process and hey, it’s better late than never!
