The CA Foundation Course is the entrance level for the chartered accountancy course offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Earlier, it was known as the Common Proficiency Test.
A candidate has to register for CA Foundation Course by filling up the online registration form available on the ICAI website. The last date for registration is December/June for May/Nov terms of examination. Registration to CA Foundation course is valid only for three years. 

The CA Foundation eligibility criteria are as follows:

  1. Candidates who wish to pursue Chartered Accountancy Course can register for CA Foundation Course after appearing in the Class 12th examination or any equivalent examination carried out by a recognized board. However, if you have not passed the 12th class then you are not eligible for appearing in CA Foundation examination.
  2. Candidates must have registered for the CA Foundation by - December 31st, 2020 for May 2021 attempt, and by June 30th, 2021  for November 2021 attempt.
  3. After successful registration, the candidate has to undergo a minimum of 4 months of study period before appearing the exam for the foundation.

CA Foundation Registration Process with ICAI 

Step 1 -

Step 2 - 
Please enter your details: Salutation, Name, Gender, DOB, email id, mobile number, country, and click on Generate OTP. The OTP will be sent to your mobile number and the verification link will be sent to your email ID.

Step 3 -  
Enter the captcha text. And click on the submit button to receive your OTP and You will receive an OTP for validation.

Step 4 - 
Enter OTP to complete the validation and complete the Login process.

Step 5 - 
Once OTP Validations is Completed, the Applicant will receive login credentials on Email/SMS for login and completion of the Registration Process.

Step 7 - 
After logging in, Select the ‘Student Cycle’ on the left side. 


Step 8 - 
Click ‘Apply for Foundation’ on the new screen. 



Step 9 - 
The other details to be provided in the CA Foundation BOS Registration 2020 are:



  1. Marital Status
  2. Father’s Name
  3. Mother’s Name
  4. Aadhar Number (optional)
  5. Pan Number (optional)
  6. Address
  7. City
  8. Pin code
  9. Category
  10. Nationality
Step 10 - 
After filling all the details, click on ‘Save and Next’.

Step 11 - 
Next window will require details about your 10th and 12th qualification like Roll no, Board name, Year and month, Result details. You also have to upload the scanned copies of the original documents- 10th and 12th Marksheets.

Step 12 - 
Select the medium of study- English or Hindi, then Click on Save and Next to proceed the further process.

Step 13 - 
  1. Upload your photograph and a specimen of scanned signature (should be on a blank white paper with blue ink.) 
  2. The maximum aspect ratio of the image is width: 21 centimeters and length: 27 centimeters. 
  3. The file size of every scanned document should be less than 1 MB and in a pdf or jpeg file format.
  4. Click on Generate OTP and enter the OTP you received.
Step 14 - 
You will be redirected to the payment gateway. You can make the payment through Net Banking/Debit Card/Credit Card. On successful payment, the system will automatically generate the form along with a successful transaction message.

Mandatory Documents required for CA Foundation registration - 

  1.  10th Marksheet copy indicating the name & date of birth tested copy of the Admit Card/ Marksheet of class 12th Examination issued by the respective board.
  2. Your recent color photograph
  3. proof of Nationality
  4. Cast Certificate - If you belong to CS/CT/OBC, upload an attested copy of proof of special category certificate
