How to register for CA articleship ?

Articleship is a 3-year practical training phase that allows students to work on real assignments for real employers mostly Chartered Accountant firms. There are norms defined by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (ICAI) based on which the stipend ranges from Rs 750 to Rs 15,000 per month

To commence an article one has to purchase Form 102 and 103 from the ICAI with the payment of Rs 50/- from ICAI and fill all the requisite details asked in the form.

Form 102 and 103 can also be downloaded from the ICAI website - Check Here and has to pay Rs.50/- extra while submitting the form to the regional office.

Procedure to fill the Registration form 102 : - "Deed of Articles"
  1. The deed of articles to be implemented for a period of 3 years, deed lesser than 3 years will not be accepted in any case.
  2. It should be duly signed by the article assistant and the principle which should be executed in a printed form in duplicate.
  3. The original copy should be retained by the principal and the duplicate copy should be retained by the article assistant for proof.
  4. It should be executed on a “Non-Judicial Stamp Paper” of the prerequisite value which must be affixed on that.
Procedure to fill the registration form 103 : - "Article Registration Form"
  1. Attested copy of IPCC mark sheet or CA Intermediate.
  2. Attested copy of the 12th Mark sheet as proof of Date of Birth.
  3. Attested Copy of completion certificate of ITT and Orientation Program.
  4. Have to submit along with requisite fees through the Demand Draft.
The Registration Form 103 must reach to the ICAI within 30 days of the commencement of Articleship.

Registration Fees :-
  1. Registration fees for Articleship is Rs.2000/- 
  2. In case this Articleship registration fees has already been paid at the time of IPCC/Intermediate Registration, you are not required to pay this fees again. 
  3. Demand Draft must be in the name of “Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” - payable at Mumbai/ Kolkata/ Chennai/ Kanpur/ New Delhi depending on the region
In case of late submission : - 

Period of delay
Fees to be paid
30 Days beyond the specified time period
Rs.100/-
31-180  days beyond the specified time period
Rs.300/-
Beyond 181 days
Rs.1000/-

Once the candidate application is for " Condonation of Delay" is submitted, ICAI will accept the form but in case of any doubts, ICAI may ask following documents - 
  1. Articles attendance sheet.
  2. Original Deed of Articles in Form 102, executed on a non-judicial stamp paper
  3. Stipend details with some proof such as Bank Pass Book or Bank Statement.
  4. Certified Copy of the work diary of the articled assistant
Students Identity Card - 

You will find an identity card in Form 103 which should be duly filled with the requisite details and the latest passport size photograph should be affixed on it and with your signature. The card should be submitted to the ICAI along with Form 103 which then will be returned by ICAI with the registration letter.  The Identity Card and Registration Letter would be sent to the Article Assistant by normal post to his registered address. 
This card is mandatory to be submitted and will be valid for a period of 3 years starting from the date of registration. In case you want to transfer or extend your articled service, you’ll have to obtain a re-issuance of the ID card for the balance/extended period.

Submission of forms - 

You will need to submit all required forms and accompanying documents to one of ICAI’s regional offices that is nearest you.



After Registration - 

After you’ve registered for CA Articleship and your forms have been verified, ICAI will send you a confirmation letter with your CA articleship I-card. ICAI will also send the articleship registration letter to you as well as to your principal. It may take up to a couple of months for the process.

Articleship Termination/Completion -

After the candidate’s registration request has been approved by the regional office, students get registered for the articles. Once the registration procedure is completed, candidates can see the article’s termination and completion forms in the articles tab.
